Esḵéḵxwi7ch tl'a Sp'áḵw'us Place

Eskékxwi7ch tl’a Sp’áḵw’us Place is a 27-unit development that provides support for vulnerable Sḵwxwú7mesh people. These homes are exclusively for Sḵwxwú7mesh people. Priority is given to vulnerable women and their children experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The second priority will be families, Elders, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ2SIA+ who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

We prioritize the use of culture as a means of promoting healing, with the belief that culture can save lives. Our objective is to counteract the harmful effects of historical and current colonial policies by offering healing opportunities firmly grounded in cultural values, land-based programming, and de-colonizing practices.

The complex consists of 27 self-contained units, including 11 Studios, 4 accessible studios, 4 one-bedroom units, 4 two-bedroom units, and 4 two-bedroom accessible units.

Eskékxwi7ch tl’a Sp’áḵw’us Place has a Program Manager, Tenant Support Workers, Kitchen Coordinator, and Building Service Worker. All staff are trained to provide culturally safe, decolonized, compassionate, and progressive care with an understanding of anti-oppression work and intersectionality.

Hiy̓ám̓ collaborates with external agencies to provide mental health and wellness services, substance use issues, harm reduction, and medical care. Internally, Hiy̓ám̓ will be working with all the Sḵwxwú7mesh Nation departments to ensure the seamless delivery of services.
