Estítkw Place
Estítkw Place means safe place
Affordable Homes with Supports on Capilano Road
Estítkw Place is a 55-unit development that provides supportive housing for vulnerable members of the Sḵwxwú7mesh Nation. To apply to these units, all applicants must be experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness, and priority is given to women.
We prioritize the use of culture as a means of promoting healing, with the belief that culture can save lives. Our objective is to counteract the harmful effects of historical and current colonial policies by offering healing opportunities firmly grounded in cultural values, land-based programming, and de-colonizing practices.
The complex consists of 52 self-contained units, including 6 studios that are wheelchair accessible and 3 one-bedroom units that are also accessible. Residents can receive one hot meal and two cold meals daily, and the site provides 24/7 staffing and wraparound support.
Estítkw Place has a Program Manager, Tenant Support Workers, Kitchen Coordinator, and Building Service Worker. All staff are trained to provide culturally safe, decolonized, compassionate, and progressive care with an understanding of anti-oppression work and intersectionality.
Hiy̓ám̓ collaborates with external agencies to provide mental health and wellness services, substance use issues, harm reduction, and medical care. Internally, Hiy̓ám̓ will be working with all the Sḵwxwú7mesh Nation departments to ensure the seamless delivery of services.
