Sen̓áḵw

Project Background

Over a century ago, Squamish People were forcibly removed from our village at Sen̓áḵw.* Our homes were destroyed and our physical presence was erased from a place we had lived for generations. But our People never forgot and we never stopped working to return to it.

In 2003, the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) reclaimed 10.48 acres of this land, and in 2026, it’s time to return home.

The Sen̓áḵw development will provide more than 6,000 rental homes, including 1,200 affordable homes, 250 of which have been allocated to Hiy̓ám̓ Housing for Squamish People. Phase One includes three towers and is nearing completion. Homes at Sen̓áḵw will open in stages as each tower is completed.

* Sen̓áḵw means “The place inside the head of False Creek.”

Three ways to live at Sen̓áḵw

There are three ways for Squamish People to live at Sen̓áḵw, and ensuring our People have priority access to them is a core commitment of the Nation, and our partners.

Phase One of Sen̓áḵw includes three towers and will deliver 1409 homes over the next year, all of which will prioritize Squamish interest. These homes fall into three categories:

  1. Hiy̓ám̓ Housing Homes – Rental homes offered exclusively to Squamish Nation members, in partnership with Hiy̓ám̓ Housing and supported by a rental assistance program to keep rents low. (lowest rent)
  2. Affordable Homes – Rental homes offered at pre-determined rates set by CMHC, to support middle-income households. (low to mid-range rent)
  3. Market Homes – Rental homes available to households with income sufficient to support the rates. (standard rent)
Applications for Hiy̓ám̓ Housing Homes at Sen̓áḵw Phase One (Towers 1 & 2) will be accepted from Monday, February 23 at 8:30 a.m. until Friday, April 10, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. More information on the application process and eligibility will be available soon.
