Retrofit funding to support affordable rental homes in Squamish
On January 19, 2026, Patrick Weiler, MP for West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast- Sea to Sky Country announced on behalf of the Government of Canada, $4.9 million in funding from the Canada Greener Affordable Housing Fund in support of an energy retrofit at Tantalus Manor, 1098 Wilson Crescent in Squamish, B.C.
Celebrating in this important milestone were Hiy̓ám̓ Housing staff and board directors, our partners from the Squamish Community Housing Society and guests from Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation Council).
Together Hiy̓ám̓ Housing and Squamish Housing are embarking on an energy retrofit of the building to reduce energy use and Green Housing Gas emissions. The project will improve the comfort and wellbeing of the residents and help keep rent affordable over the long term.
Both Societies extend their thanks and appreciation to our project partners:
- Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC)
- Federation of Canadian Municipalities Green Municipal Fund
- Vancity Non-Profit Housing Retrofit Program
- District of Squamish
- BC Housing
Tantalus Manor was jointly purchased in 2024, by Squamish Housing and Hiy̓ám̓ Housing.
Hiy̓ám̓ Housing has first right to select tenants when vacancies arise in the building and up to half of the units are prioritized for Sḵwx̱wú7mesh members who wish to live off reserve.
